The subject was Neil Postman's 1985 book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Amusing-Ourselves-Death-Discourse-Business/dp/014303653X" rel="nofollow">Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business</a> which compares Orwell's vision of a world in which we are denied information with Huxley's idea that the reverse would apply - we'd have too much trivial information and would trivialize it.<br /><br />The foreword of the book is online <a href="http://www.serendipity.li/jsmill/post_1.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>, and puts it much better than I could.
